Frequently Asked Questions

1. What operating systems will LineNotes run on?

3. Is LineNotes software designed specifically to take only "line notes"?

4. How might a director use LineNotes?

5. Is there a version of LineNotes available for Mac users?

1. What operating systems will LineNotes run on?

LineNotes requires Windows 98 or later and Microsoft Word 2000 or later. LineNotes uses Microsoft Word for script display and note distribution.

2. What is your return policy?

A demo version of LineNotes is available to download for free. Using the demo, you can thoroughly explore the features of LineNotes on your own computer before making a decision to purchase. Click here to download the demo.

Purchasing a license allows you to authorize the demo and "unlock" the full functionality of LineNotes. Since it is impossible to "return" an authorized version of the software, refunds cannot be issued once a license has been purchased.

In rare instances and only within 30 days of purchase, if due to technical difficulties or platform incompatibilities the software will not function, we may, at our sole discretion, issue a refund, minus a credit card processing fee. In such instances, an LOD (Letter Of Destruction) on company letterhead will be required to process the refund. Please direct any inquires to support@thankyou5.com.

3. Is LineNotes software designed specifically to take only "line notes"?

No. LineNotes will help you create, organize, and distribute all kinds of rehearsal notes: whether you are an assistant stage manager helping your actors get off book, a director working through the script after a dress rehearsal, or a set desiger making notes for the shop, LineNotes can save you lots of time and hassle.

However, LineNotes does have six note types specifically designed for taking "line notes" (e.g. Added Word, Phrase or Line; Dropped WPL; Inverted WPL etc.). If you have ever been assigned the task of taking line notes during a rehearsal you know that it can be extremely tedious and even tense, since ever second spent taking a note, is a second you are not watching the script for the next note. For this reason, LineNotes includes special features that make line-note-taking lightning fast.

4. How might a director use LineNotes?

This will depend, of course, on your own directing style and where you are in the production process. Before rehearsals begin, a director may use LineNotes to communicate with designers or producers, noting places in the script that will require certain technical elements, props, design ideas etc. Some directors are resistant to bringing a laptop to the rehearsal hall, and downright belligerent if you offer to relieve them of their yellow notepads. These directors may ask a Stage Manager to distribute their notes using LineNotes. Others will use LineNotes to work through their handwritten notes after rehearsal, distributing notes by email and avoiding some of the long hours spent giving notes to a tired Cast and Staff. LineNotes has the flexibility to save you time regardless of your directing style.

5. Is there a version of LineNotes available for Mac users?

There is currently no version of LineNotes available for use on the Macintosh. As both Open Source supporters and Mac users, we are anxious to develop LineNotes for all platforms. The decision to start with Windows was a matter of development costs and our perception of LineNotes' potential user base. We have already heard from a significant number of disappointed Mac users. If you would be interested in seeing LineNotes and other future Thank You 5 software developed for Macintosh or other platforms, please register your interest by going to the "Contact Us" page and letting us know. Thank You 5 will always strive to develop software based on the feedback of our users!
